Five- to 10-million adoptable animals in shelters are killed every year for lack of space. Should even more of them be denied homes?

Even those who have yards still need to exercise themselves and their dogs. How do these writers know that the dog owners go directly home after the dog does its business?

In my own neighborhood, about 40 percent of the homes have one or more dogs. I see very little dog droppings on my twice-daily walks. I do see droppings from raccoons, rabbits and geese, all of which are much more likely to cause disease.

16 Apartments Damaged by Fire in Midland

The fire started just before 9:30 Sunday morning at the Coventry Pointe Apartments in the 3300 block of West Wadley. Heavy smoke was reported pouring from the attic of building 11 where the fire started.

There were no injuries reported although one woman was taken to the hospital because her medication was in her apartment.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from jumping to other buildings, but the fire was able to spread quickly due to a common space attic that ran from the north end to the south end of the building.
