One of the reasons behind the course, says Healthy Schools Programme Co-ordinator Jill Calvert, was to try to address that. "It is all about balance," she says. "It wasn't about saying don't have things like chocolate bars and cakes in your packed lunch, it was about showing alternatives and balanced meals.

"It is also about supporting messages already given through schools about healthy eating."

Healthy schools project officer Lesley Gibbin ran it. She was delighted with the families who attended - which included everyone from grandmas and grandchildren to childminders and their charges as well as mums, dads and their children.

"The course went really well and the families worked really well together. We made lots of things and tried lots of things some hadn't tried before," she says. more
