Samsung has reportedly sold one million Samsung Soul U900 mobile phones in the first month of its introduction, beating Apple's iPhone.
But observers say it's too early to claim that Samsung has beaten the ever popular iPhone although the company has indeed sold 280,000 units in Europe alone.
Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone's in 3 months since it was introduced, so that could have been the basis for some camps to claim that Samsung has defeated Apple.
But heck, let's wait for few more months and see if Soul U900 can keep its stance.
. moreWachovia may plan to unload troubled loans
The loans could be sold in bulk or packaged into securities, although that market has largely dried up in the mortgage meltdown.
The bank has been besieged by mortgage losses in its $120 billion Pick-A-Payment mortgage portfolio, which was acquired in 2006 from Golden West Financial Corp. These loans allow borrowers to make a minimum payment that doesn't cover all of the interest and are concentrated in troubled California mortgage markets.
"I think they are looking at the mortgage business and seeing how they can get some of these ‘Pick-to-not-Pay' mortgages off their balance sheet," said Nancy Bush, analyst with NAB Research in New Jersey.
Wachovia on Monday told the Observer that it had hired Goldman Sachs to perform "analytics on our loan portfolio to evaluate various alternatives." The bank declined further comment. more
$58m Powerball ticket sold in Melbourne
One of its customers scooped the entire $58 million Powerball jackpot last night, The Herald Sun reported. They will be paid by cheque in two weeks. Newsagency owner Dean Schultz said the person had won the loot off a 50-game quick-pick, purchased yesterday afternoon. "It is such a thrill for us,'' Mr Schultz told radio station 3AW. "Just to know the difference that this will make to someone's life and the people around them, it's just fantastic.'' But Mr Schultz said he couldn't accept any gift from the winner. "We are not supposed to accept gratuity, so if they offered us something we wouldn't be able to take it.''Read more at the Herald Sun. Share this article What is this? . more

Damaged apples slated for the fresh market could be sold to processing markets, though some fruit was too damaged even for those, he said.
Apples that do make it into the fresh market will have no quality problems, Allen said.
Well have 12 million bushels going in to markets in great shape, he said.
On June 24, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported prices of $22-24 for carton tray packs of controlled-atmosphere red delicious 72-125s from Washington, up from $16-18 last year at the same time.
The bulk of the damage came in Wayne County, New Yorks top apple-producing county, Allen said. Up to 70% of the apples grown there for the fresh market will go to processing or wont be sold.
New sorters installed this year by some growers will help better grade product this year, deciding what can be salvaged for fresh, Allen said. more
