Acupuncture practitioner Jane helps treat a range of problems
For one afternoon a week Jane can be found at the clinic, which is part of the Wadsworth Evans Osteopaths, treating a variety of ailments such as arthritis, digestive problems, aching limbs, and infertility.Infact treating a range of problems associated with pregnancy and the menstrual cycle is something which Jane specialises in after originally forging a career in nursing and midwifery.Jane said: "Acupuncture is very useful for certain times of pregnancy and that's my area of real interest. I am treating a couple of people at the moment for infertility. There has been quite a lot of research into having acupuncture when going through IVF cycles and in terms of supporting your body when you are going through that process it is very good," she added.Jane decided to diversify her path in medicine after spending time in Africa teaching midwifery and her experiences in the developing world convinced her that it was time to do something a bit different.Jane said: "Acupuncture is very different from anything else I have done which is fabulous, it's like a breath of fresh air."When I was in Africa I didn't want to go back to being just a midwife because I had been a midwife for quite a number of years and I wanted to branch out into something else. more

Meniscus transplant
Initially, doctors may try a conservative approach to treating a meniscus tear. Rest of the affected knee, ice, compression and elevation (RICE) are often recommended. Non-steroidal anti-inflammation medications can be used to relieve pain. If conservative treatment fails to ease the symptoms, or if the tear is severe, doctors may recommend surgery. It's often done through small incisions using a lighted viewing tube and small surgical instruments. The area of damage is located. Tissue may be trimmed or a section of the meniscus may be removed. Any debris inside the joint may also be removed.Meniscus Transplantation In cases of severe meniscus injury, surgeons may completely remove the damaged cartilage. However, that means the joint loses its protective cushion, allowing the ends of the bones to rub together during movement. more
