Since this appears to be a private tutoring lesion for Jesus' small class of first century followers we might tend to excuse ourselves from paying attention to the words. What could they possibly have to do with us in this last decade of the 21st century? No one has been called "Beelzebub" in centuries; we live in society that will not kill the body simply for venturing out in the name of Christ.
We tolerate sparrows, but would not think of purchasing them, even at the bargain price of two for a nickel. Before we too quickly dismiss these words, let us recall that Matthew is writing to a church, which probably responded in the same way.

I'm going to college in Boston in the fall. I really need a job and I'd like to get something that pays relatively well but obviously as a student I'm going to need a job I can only do maybe a couple days a week. I thought tutoring middle school or high school students would be a perfect job except that when I searched.. all of the agencies only seem to hire college graduates. I though about private tutoring--a friend of mine tutors some of her family friends' children in subjects as well as preparing them for college but I'm unsure of how to go about that since I'll know no one in Boston next year so it doesn't really seem like a viable option. Does anyone know agencies or companies around Boston that hire college students? I'll be a freshman, by the way. I have good grades and had a good SAT score if they consider that in hiring. Also, I'm open to other suggestions--if anyone knows other jobs that'd be good. Thank you!!!! moreResolved Question: Do tutoring companies hate it when...?
I am a tutor for a tutoring company (not a Sylvan or Huntington, but one like them, only not a franchise). I've been with them for six months. I don't get enough hours though (sometimes as few as seven in a week), and I recently decided to solicit private tutoring clients from the private school where I'm a teacher. Though my boss at the tutoring company said this was fine, I feel like she's acted in a more 'complaining' way with me ever since I said I was going to do this (and have actually started doing). All of the other tutors at my work place tutor only for the company. (Keep in mind, none of my private tutoring clients are from where I work; I got them 100% on my own from my school). Anyway, do tutoring companies hate this? I suspect my boss hates that I am doing this. What is your experience? moreResolved Question: What is the appropriate way to list private and independently contracted work on my resume?
I have been working as an English tutor part-time for about a year now. I don't work for a company. I just advertise on Craig's List and so all of my students have come either from my ad on there or word of mouth. How do I list this type of thing on my resume? Also, sometimes I do copy work for a professional acquaintance of mine, but I am not employed by him. How do I list this? Thanks. Thanks (((UP)))! moreResolved Question: Chances for top 30 university?
I will probably have a 4.3 cumalitive private gpa and a 4.6 UC gpa by application time (3.86 freshman year[B in french 2...], 4.33 sophomore, 4.83 junior). I will take the SATs soon, and from practice tests and the PSAT, I am confident I can get around 2100-2300 my first time. I also think I got 4-5s on the rest of my AP tests (in addition to AP Euro(5) sophomore year), resulting in 4 5s (4s in worst case) total, pertinent to application. SAT IIs also look to be in the 700-800 range. My senior course load is: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics B, AP Comp Gov, Ap Econ, AP Music Theory English, Band. I play the oboe and English Horn at school, privately, and in major youth orchestras. I am co-principal oboist in one of the youth orchestras. I also have been part of 2 honor groups I have been a member of the school robotics team since sophomore year and will have participated for 3 years by the end of senior year, including FIRST events. I play tennis semi-seriously, occasionally at a tournament or two. I will have been on the varsity track team for 2 years by the end of senior year (pole vaulting). I am part of 2 clubs at school, being the cofounder of one of them (not really documented at school however, at least not that I know of). I peer-tutor, and have accrued about 400 hours total doing so. I also volunteer at a local thrift shop, providing affordable clothing and merchendise for the underprivilaged, and will garner around 100 hours total for this. Additionally, I am part of CSF, but no leadership in this unfortunately. A friend and I have started a private charity organization named Young People's Humanitarian Society (not affiliated with school, went through trouble to incorporate and get approved by state sec of state). We are seeking to raise awareness of humanitarian issues, for now domestically, may grow to be internationally (probably not). We are trying to raise money as well, but we have not had it running long enough to see if it will have a concrete impact yet. A detailed and thourough website will be up on this shortly. I have also co-founded a club at school to raise political awareness and espouse the virtues of political dissent. It has been running for about a year since sophomore year. I plan to found some more clubs at the beginning of senior year. This summer, I am planning to take 2-3 CCCs (community college courses). I have not taken any CCCs to date however. I will also intern (hopefully) at a local engineering company, or otherwise get a job at a gas station (haha). I may also attend a science program/seminar somewhere. I think I will have recieved around 3-4 awards/honors/scholarships by application time. As for my negatives, I have only taken up to 3 levels of language (French) and cannot continue because of scheduling conflicts. I applied for a summer internship with NASA, but got rejected (not a direct negative, but I'm paranoid colleges will do the same). Also, based on your judgment, my leadership and community service may be lacking. I would appreciate it if you could give me some chances for 1) top tier UCs and 2) privates in the top 30 (usc, columbia, duke, vanderbilt, etc). moreResolved Question: I would like to run for mayor of allentown,PA after law school?
Would you vote for me if you lived in allentown? These are some of my ideas that i think would really help. Pass a flat 10% municipal tax and cut programs that are inefficient and expensive. Pass a $1 for $1 program...where any dollar that you donate to charity within allentown will be cut from your municipal taxes Pass a workfare and schoolfare program to restore and build new parks, recreational zones, clean city creeks and graffiti, or get a school degree/trade equivalent in exchange for 1-2 year assistance where they must get a job in the private sector. Pass a fresh produce assistance program to provide impoverished families with a way to buy healthy food options, most are inner-city and do not have much healthy options. Uphold the right of business owners and home owners with a clean criminal record to own a gun for their self-defense. Cut funding for contraceptives and create abstinence programs in public schools. Create a program where chosen qualified college students studying in a college within Allentown can serve as tutor for 1-4 years in an Allentown public school in exchange for $5000. Put more police officers on the streets and create a heavily armed special task force to focus on combating illegal guns/drugs. Increase DUI checkpoints near bars, and pass a measure to suspend licenses for a 2 year period for anyone charged with a DUI offense. Make contracts with local companies like service electric to provide broadband access to all schools and with the local waste management to create more methane gas energy programs. Pass a law where everyone working in Allentown above the age of 16 must have an Allentown workers card that must be confirmed by the employer prior to employment to counter illegal alien employment and increase worksite raids. moreResolved Question: Crisis in American education: why is it assumed that the problem is delivery of the product?
And not the product itself? Let's examine education from a scientific and economic point of view. Why do all of the plans focus on product delivery? "It's the teachers. They're not committed like in the old days." Or "It's the local school officials. They don't know how to manage." Or "Parents don't take responsibility." Much of that is true, but is it the cause of current problems? People end up attacking the labor unions of people who do the equivalent of board-of-directors-level corporate work but in a public system, for salaries comparable to the employees at Home Depo. Why the focus on product delivery and NEVER the product? The current testing mania has gotten to the point where in some places legally-required tests and courses take the majority of local school budgets. Every dime of that goes to big companies like McGraw and Kaplan, not for teachers and supplies. And the tests don't serve as a sample to measure what and how well kids have learned if the system has teachers "teaching to the test." The tests don't actually measure the kids' education. They measure how far schools have changed things to match our system of measure. And for every low grade, a megacorp gets another multi-billion$ contract to snatch more school money, money that won't go to the schools that got the low grades. Meanwhile, curriculum has deteriorated. School security is either treated like riot police duty, or police states in miniature. And sometimes (at the same time!) important security threats are ignored entirely. I personally know a public school teacher who has gotten to the point where he picks students he think can make it and meets with them privately. "The stuff I have to put in my courses may help them pass tests, but it's useless in learning how to write college papers, or read anything more complicated than a gossip website. If I don't help them, they won't make it." He buys supplies to use for these private tutoring sessions out of his own pocket. He has been teaching for twenty-one years. He makes approximately $33,000 a year. In some places a first-year prison guard makes more than that. In my job, I am involved in education in a non-school bureaucratic setting. I know my boss would crumple up the average American high school curriculum into a ball and throw it in his little basketball wastebasket. Then he'd drop the idea of contractors and go talk to our in-house staff and see what they could come up with. Our kids don't know math. Our kids not only don't speak French or Spanish - they usually (native-born too!) don't really speak English either. They think an engineer has something to do with driving a car and that Franz Josef is the name of that German kid being scouted by the NBA. So my question is, with all the suggestions on how to address the crisis in American education, why the focus on the delivery of the product and not the quality of the product? The product stinks. Why are we ignoring that? . moreResolved Question: What are some good SAT Tutor programs?

I want to study mathematics (or mathematics with statistics) at oxbridge. To do so i will need perfect results at GCSE, and A's at a level in mathematics with statistics, further maths, and physics. i'm also going to take english lang+lit at a level, but this is not essential to get into mathematics (or with statistics) at oxbridge. basically, i need a private tutor. i'm doing well in english, maths and science etc, but i'm only predicted an a in maths, which i need as an A*. If you know of any good tutor companies or sites i would be incredibly grateful. thanks, paige. moreResolved Question: Small private school with horrible teacher(elem.) and equally horrible principal(high school)?
Please help! I am not employed by the school yet by a company that contracts to this particular school. What I and my assistant have witnessed (visually and auditory) and some of what others have said is APPAULING to say the least. This is long, but I have to paint the picture. Here are a few examples: *Mental abuse: calling students stupid. *Sharing Confidential information: sharing a student’s medication status in the presence of his peers and staff to belittle him. *Physical abuse: I am skating very thin ice here. Nonetheless . . . corporal punishment is in place at this school BUT last I heard in my years in education this was limited to 2-3 swats. I have heard many more than that of which I am certain was done in the presence of the other students. In addition, (hearsay) a student reported this teacher slapping him across the face to his teacher. Of course, it was denied and this is not a child that would lie per I tutor him. Another incident (hearsay) involves her grabbing an autistic child and holding him against the wall with her forearm pressed against his chest because he was not grasping the lesson. *Unattended students: This teacher and principal (whom also teach at the school (very small school)) are constantly leaving students unattended for long periods. Of course, this causes chaos. But when they return to their appropriate classroom, they scream at the students for being too noisy, off task, etc. This brings me to the next one . . . *Yelling: when quiet, instruction is taking place, hardly the case. Screaming and yelling occurs throughout the day by the students and this particular teacher. It is often times disturbing or distracting when I am filling the holes the students currently have. They are often annoyed by her screaming antics and difficult for me to coerce them to focus on what we are working on at that moment. I would love to share this with my immediate supervisor, but I am sure this will be treated the same as my former, actual schizophrenic, assistant. She just did not want deal with it or have the extra headache. She has heard, during her occasional visits, words/phrases/actions that caused her to raise an eyebrow yet not to the level of which I have. But what is important to her and the company is to not lose the contract with the school. To not report this to the appropriate powers that be will hinder many of the students self confidence, lack of the academic foundation necessary for success, and possible loss of my certification for not reporting what I believe to be a form of abuse. What should I do and at the same time not cross the lines with the company I work for? moreResolved Question: I suspect my son has dyslexia. Need advice, personal stories?
My son is in the second grade & after reading a lot about dyslexia, I'm pretty sure he has at least a mild form of it. I have an appointment to have him evaluated by a private company (and I am sure they will try to sell me on tutoring), but I'm wondering if this is the best route to take. I've also got a call in to the school to find out what they can do. Best case senario is me being the one to teach him. The materials/programs for this are really expensive. So I'm wondering is a private tutor better? Or is it worth it for me to spend the money & teach him myself (which I'm confident I can do). My only reservation with the school system is that they will take forever & then I'm not sure they can do an adequate job. Anyone have any advice or tips for me? Thanks. moreResolved Question: Home schooling, or school from home?
Hi, I am really keen on enrolling for home schooling for grade 11. The company I found ( I live in South Africa) are Brainline, they apparently do school from home, using a computer, and they provide text books aswell as info discs and online tutoring. I will also get in private tutors for Science and maths. Does this sound like a good idea. I am a hard working and prefer school where I just go for the academics and not for the social part. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions. Is home schooling a good idea?? Any help would be appreciated, Thnx moreResolved Question: Question About Becoming a Math Teacher or Math Instructor?
Hello, I graduated last year from college with a BS in marketing and a minor in Math...I have decided that I would like to pursue becoming a math teacher, instructor or tutor ( I am not sure which yet) at some point in future (probably not within the next 6 months) 1) What are the pros and cons of each of these * Teaching at a private high school *Teaching at a public high school *Tutoring for a company (Kaplan) *College Professor 2) What are the general requirements for each of these * Teaching at a private high school *Teaching at a public high school *Tutoring for a company (Kaplan) *College Professor What sort of reasonable steps should i be taking now given that I don't want to jump into grad school right away? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! moreResolved Question: What are my chances of getting into Cornell University early decision?
I am in my junior year of high school and I've been looking into Cornell for about two years. I've done much research on this school and have fallen in love with it.I hope to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences (philosophy major). As of now my average is around an 88. I know it's really low, but I'm working very hard on bringing it up.I have over 500 hours of community service.I am on the booster (stepping) team in my school. I dance for a known dance company in my area. I dance 6 hours a week. I was an intern at the district attorney's office of my city (I plan on becoming a lawyer). I go to a highly competitive private school which is why I am only in the top 50% of my class. Do you think this could affect my chances, or will they take into consideration the competition at my school? I am taking private tutoring for the SATs, so hopefully this will help me get a high score when I take the test in May.Next year I will be taking AP Art, AP Psychology, AP English, AP Spanish, and Statistics. I currently take honors Spanish and honors English, and tutor two sophomores in Spanish for school credit. I am a member of the National Honors Society. I plan on attending Cornell Summer College this summer.I know I don't have the best transcript, but I plan on writing an essay portraying my love of learning, which I realize is an important factor that Cornell wants in a student. Please tell me what you think my chances are and if you have any advice to spice up my transcript, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all your help! I know =/ I realized this when I summed up my averages which is why I plan on writing a killer essay. I was involved in many extracurriculars so it did take a toll on my school grades but hopefully I will be viewed as a well rounded and dedicated individual rather than an average student who didn't quite meet the Ivy League status-quo. moreResolved Question: How do I fill out my taxes as an "independent contractor"?
Hi! I received a 1099 MISC from my so called employer for 2008 taxes. I understand that receiving this form indicates I am something of an independent contractor. The company that sent me this form was a private tutoring company that brought tutors like me to students' houses to help them with their schoolwork. When filing my taxes this year, I was asked to fill out a form called the "Profit or Loss from Business (Sole Proprietorship)". It asked me to indicate information like, business name, address, and what my principle business code was. Yep, and there are other weird questions I'm not sure how to answer (e.g., What's my accounting method- cash, accrual, or other?). Do I just list my home address for the address? Make up a name for my company? (Genius Enterprises is sounding good) How do I find out my business principle code? Is there an additional form I'm missing out on that has the information I need? Thanks for your help! moreResolved Question: How should I register? Republican or Democrat? I’m interested in a career in politics?
I am still young and confused about how I should register. Here are my views. After you tell me what I should register as can you tell me if you would ever support me in an election. I believe in lower taxes, I agree with a flat income tax and a flat sales tax. I also support a sales tax holiday to last thru the month of December to boost buying. I think that lower taxes and ax breaks should be used as incentives for companies to come back to the US and so that small businesses and entrepreneurs have a fair shot. I am a believer in capitalism with some regulation (health benefits, workers comp, and work hours obviously). I think that a good program would be a small business bond program where average Americans can lend money to government in secured loan with interests, so that that money can then be lent to small businesses but lenders would get money back with interest. I also believe that taxes should not control behavior but instead should be used as a way to receive revenue. On social issues. I believe that a civil union for any two consenting adults is a must but am opposed to calling it marriage because marriage is a religious ceremony. When it comes to abortion I strongly oppose it and believe that government money should not be used to fund abortions. I do believe though that it must remain legal but that people that do it should do it with their own money. I oppose GOVERNMENT funding of stem cell research and cloning. On foreign policy. I am against entangling alliances and I believe that our military resources should be used only for self-defense (Ex. 9/11). I also have my own philosophy called “western-hemispherianism”, where I think that the US should its private sector should instead negotiate and create jobs in the western hemisphere rather than in eastern countries like China and India. Doing so would weaken our political enemies and bring an end to the immigration crisis (the biggest reason why people migrate is lack of jobs). On that note I am strongly against illegal immigration. I support raids and deportation and the construction and investment in more border security. I believe in protectionist policies (tariffs) against companies that have jobs in eastern countries. On social security I oppose it except for helping those with disabilities and widows. I do not believe that retirees should be supported by the government but that they should rather have personal responsibility and save for the future. They should be able to use their money to invest how over they like. When it comes to welfare I believe that irresponsible parents and people who do not seek a job or an education. Welfare should be used and not abused. On energy I believe in investing in nuclear, clean coal, geothermal, solar, natural gas, bio-fuels, and the exploitation of OUR fossil fuels. I believe in energy independence. When it comes to health I think that workers should be able to choose to keep their own health insurance thru their jobs, purchase on their own. I also support legislation where hospitals and clinics can enlist their services in a database and where they promise to provide services to families that can prove that they have a wage of under $50,000. In exchange I would promise the hospital an annual $1 billion and clinics $4million (excludes cosmetic procedures and abortions). I support cancer research and AIDS research as well as autism research. Finally!Education. I think that the system needs to go through some serious reform. Teacher’s abilities should be tested by their respective states. States should also make legislation to not allow cell phone access in schools. They should also make contracts with internet service providers to make sure that all schools have access to the internet and that students have their textbooks. I am also a supporter of the voucher program for students who wish to apply for alternative schools. I also wish we had a program where students who graduate college/apprenticeship for example can receive a $1500 bonus after they graduate. I also think that cities should create local workshops paid by the government where students can go to and get tutoring free of charge by college students in certain fields (mathematics, literature). This could count as work study for college students while at the same time prepping elementary and high school kids. AND OF COURSE PARENTS MUST DO THEIR PART! sure unka dano moreResolved Question: Would you vote for me for governor of New York?
I would run as an independent with my own party.Tell me if you are republican, democrat, or independent? These are just some of my ideas…I am 16 years old but I want to pursue a career in politics. I want to create opportunities for small businesses with a new program that I would call “The Small Business Bond Program” where I would allow average citizens to lend money to the government which would then be lent to small businesses and entrepreneurs. In return citizens will receive their money back with interest. This is a two way investment. It betters the state’s economy and allows the lender to make a secure investment. I would set a flat property tax of 4% on all homes with a value of $2 million or less and a tax of 6% on houses whose value equals more than $2 million. For international companies (including companies that had previously left the US) that come to my state I would set their property tax to 0.3% of their total annual earnings. When it comes to sales tax I would create a sales tax holiday lasting the whole month of December where no sales tax is paid. This applies to taxes and education so I am placing it in between. I would create a program where students who graduate college/apprenticeship for example between (2009-2013) can receive a $1500 bonus after they graduate. On education I would focus on laws to strengthen school attendance. I would also make sure that all public school teachers go through state tests every four years to test their knowledge in their respective field. I also want an increase of $2000 for all teachers, firefighters, police, etc. I would make a program to work with a private internet service provider to make sure that all schools in New York have access to the internet. I would make sure that every student has access to textbooks. I am also a believer in vouchers for students wishing to attend alternative schools. There also needs to be legislation over cell phones in school. In my studies I have noticed that it plays a huge part in distracting students from school work. Parents must also take the initiative and make sure their children can receive the help they need (this means shutting of the video games). I also want local workshops paid by the government where students can go to and get tutoring free of charge by college students in certain fields(mathematics, literature). This could count as work study for college students while at the same time prepping elementary and high school kids. When it comes to social issues I believe in civil unions for consenting adults but hold the belief that marriage is a religious ceremony. On abortion I think that the number of abortions should be lowered as I disagree with it. I would do that by creating programs to aid mothers morally and financially during their birth and 1 year later, during which they must find a job or prove that they are attending school of some type. I also support legislation where hospitals and clinics must educate the mother about the abortion process and its side-effects before practicing it through visual demonstrations, etc. moreResolved Question: Do Indians from India have an irritating personality? Check this out?
I got this from another site..And I strongly agree with it. I guess you will too, after reading only one or two points lol. 1) Compartmentalize work and private life. Work is work; just because I'm your coworker doesn't mean we're best friends. We're not - I have friends outside of work and I'm closer to them than most friends at work. I also keep my private life separate from work. So stop getting insulted if I am vague about what I did during the weekend or don't tell you more about the woman I am dating. 2) The resources at work are intended to be used for work-related purposes. Sure, there's some abuse by Americans but they know there's a limit. So stop using the corporate printer to print out private material. Not only is it abusing company resources but do you really want to take the chance that some coworker gets to the printer before you do and sees personal information about you? Sending/receiving personal email to your work email is just asking for trouble. So is downloading all those Indian MP3 songs on the corporate PC. And I know calling India long distance is expensive but most companies do not allow you to call your family in India from your work phone line because you don't want to pay for the telephone bill. Some will even fire you for that. 3) Don't ask me what my salary is or if I got a performance bonus. We don't do that in the US. Yes, you told me that back in the India office, everyone shares their salaries and such but we don't do that here. Don't get offended if I don't tell you and don't make the argument that I should reveal it because you're my friend. See #1 above. 4) Labor costs more in the US. Therefore, US companies expect more from their employees here than in India. You can't loaf and IM with friends back in India for hours at a time. I surf the web here and there at work but I limit it, mainly because I always have something to do. If you notice, most Americans, even the Indian ones who've been here a while, are at their desk most of the time. They don't go around and socialize with everyone in the group for 2 hours every day. Yes, I saw that in the Indian office and I know the Indian culture emphasizes socializing in the office much more than in the US. But when in Rome, do as the Romans do. 5) Just because Americans are trusting doesn't mean that they are gullible. Stop expecting that you will be a manager in 2 years. You have not shown yourself to be all that good. You should focus more on doing your job well rather than career ladder climbing. You actually need to show achievement, not just talk a good game and be sycophantic to the managers. You talked a good game but you've been here a year and you still don't have a very good grasp of our SW and our technologies. I've asked you to read the docs about our product and have a better grasp of our products. That's something you have to do on your own time. Don't ask me to teach it to you because I really don't have time. I'm not your private tutor. And I won't do your homework for you. Stop trying to take advantage of me and stop complaining that you expected better treatment from me because we are friends. Now developers in other groups are complaining about you because of your lack of technical knowledge. Isn't it ironic that the biggest complainers about you are your fellow Indians? Maybe they aren't as trusting as Americans because they are used to the Indian tendency to "shuck and jive" rather than be honest about their accomplishments. And stop complaining about how Americans are so unfriendly and unhelpful. Maybe that's because they see you as shifty and slick and having an ulterior motive. Americans are very helpful and friendly. But they don't like being taken advantage of. You need to stop acting like anyone not from your Indian ethnicity and caste is someone to take advantage of for your self-interest. 6) Don't tell others at work that you got the company to sponsor you for a green card. Many Americans (including myself) resent that especially since there are Americans who could do your job. What's crazy is that you're a mediocre engineer and I know we could hire someone just as good as you who is an American (and I don't care what ethnicity they are, as long as they are a citizen or a legal resident). Don't take this as some validation that you're some indispensible worker from India because you're not. oh crap..can't delete the content. well if anyone wants to know the source, its here http://www.jobschmob.com/showArticle.cgi?id=1977 and yeh...im genetically an indian but i don't like indians moreResolved Question: Have you hired private tutors from www.craigslist.org?

I'm a private tutor of English and rather often I have to do with my private clients' requests of helping them. Here's the short description of a certain case written down directly word by word from a person of Armenian nationality who has some problems with immigration's claim: "My name is Mireshyan Hakob. In 1915 after Armenian Genocide my deceased granddad, Jack Kasparian, emigrated to the USA. For a long time, about 20 years, he worked in Ford Motor Company in Detroit. On the 7-th of October 1943 my granddad had got the US citizenship. After the war he went to the USSR to marry and couldn't come back as the Iron Curtain was established. My grandparents family consisted of Mom, dad and their three daughters. After 1991, when the USSR collapsed, my mom and I tried to find out my granddad's life cycle. At Moscow's US embassy we were told that in case if my granddad's citizenship had been proved through certain documents we would have acquire the US citizenship automatically. We succeed in that and my mom got her US citizenship on the 26-th of May 1998, but in my case it has been refused despite the promise without any explanations. How could I restore my right and on which lawful foundation it would be more correct to get the US citizenship as I don't know American legislation?" moreResolved Question: Do you think that i can get into UCSB, Pepperdine or Loyola Marymount University?

So yes, I chose to work for one of these organizations because I wanted to help... I did not realize that it would result in lower pay, more gas and higher taxes for me - a working college student.
