Questions others have asked about Starting A Home Based Tutoring Business

Resolved Question: Will a "The Sims 3" player answer a ton of questions for me?

Can you customize babies, not just toddlers? Can you have hospital births? Can you have home births? If so, is there a midwife career track? Are there multiple births? If so, what is the max? Can a sim have their children taken away and then get them back again, perhaps after cleaning up their act and proving that to a social worker? If so, what is the limit of times a child can be removed before it is permanent? Can you employ massage therapists, personal trainers, personal chefs, home nurses, tutors, or babysitters? Can you place an ad in the paper or computer for a roommate, or do you just have to manually move one in? Is there a university, vacation, downtown, or business city/area? If so, are there hotels? Can you package entire neighborhoods? Can you travel from hood to hood, or are the neighborhoods segregated (as in TS2, Strangeville could not be accessed by a sim from Simville)? Can the energy bar be refilled through eating, or just sleep/espressos? Can a sim have more than one job at a time? Can a sim marry more than one person, say, in two different towns? In other words, could a sim lead multiple lives? What business ownership or money making opportunities are there? Can you collect gems and then start a jewellery store? Fish market, etc? What specialty characters are there (like aliens, werewolves, vampires, etc)? If you create-a-sim fat to start off with, can you exercise that sim slim? What role do memories play in a sim's personality? For instance, if you create a happy, cheerful sim, and then all their family members die in a horrible fire, will they still be cheerful after a set grieving period passes? Or will they always be somewhat gloomy? Do cars break down and need repairing? What about other things like bikes, fountains, cell phones, and toys? How much of an influence do parents have over toddler personality development? Can they "encourage" a child to be less noisy, etc? How long does it take to complete a skill progression or homework? Are pets controllable? What types of animals come with the base game? Are there exotic animals, or perhaps zoos? Can sims commit suicide? Can sims murder others? If so, is there a jail? Can you control the pitch, tone, etc of a sim's voice in CAS? Can you create transgendered sims? Can you make a sim wear clothes meant for a different gender's body type? In other words, can a sim crossdress? Thank you in advance for answering!  more

Voting Question: What is a good business to have?

My husband have been saving for a short while and managed to save a couple thousand dollars. Instead of spending it on taking trips or other fun things we decided that we should start some kind of business but we don't kind of business to start. We first thought about starting a group home but so many people have discouraged us from that because they said that there are so many stipulations. We thought about getting into real estate like renovating houses and reselling them but it either takes a lot of startup money or really good credit. I really not interested in anything that I have to sell because I'm not good at it whether it be online or in person because I couldn't sell water to a well. Well actually I am already in a business that sells discounted video home phones, cell phones, home security systems, and direct tv but business is kind of slow right now. I even tried selling avon which wasn't very lucrative for me because like I said I'm not good at selling but their discounts for the sellers are awesome. I'm not interested in those travel agency things because my sister-in-law does that and is not making much money. I even thought about starting a tutoring program but there are already too many many in the small town I live in. So my question is, does anyone know a good business to start that will bring in a decent income that has nothing to do with the internet or selling? And I say 'that has nothing to do with the internet' because 99.9% of internet based businesses involve selling something. We are at the end of our rope with ideas. Right now we are starting to lean toward a daycare.  more

Voting Question: Need Solid Ideas for a Home-based Business?

I'm looking for good ideas on what type of home-based business to start-up. I've was recently "laid off" but I have funds put aside. Really, I don't wish to go back to working for someone else. I would like to hear about some solid, proven, home business or perhaps franchises that can be run from home maybe a computer/internet based service business. No MLM, affiliates programs, pyramid schemes or anything of the sort. Ideas that have crossed my mind: Blogging (I live in a tourist town and thought there might be opportunity in providing info about events in town). Online tutoring (Spanish, software programs like Photoshop). Domain name selling (like a reseller) Web site building (would have to learn web design first) Virtual Office Assistant. Video Resume Service I'm not sure which path to take right now but I'm looking for good solid ideas and I'll take this "time off" to research 'em and follow what looks like it may lead some where. Thanks everyone.  more

Resolved Question: Should I have taken for them?

I am presently studying in an overseas university with a lot of my countrymen. In the university, there are a number of assignments to be done. After each assignment is marked by the lecturers or tutors, they will be handed back to the students. In some cases, students are suppoed to go and take the assignments from the lecturers themselves. They will not be given back during lectures or the tutorials. Some students, however, are so busy that they forget to take the assignments. So, the lecturers will have to remind the students to take them or else they "will be thrown away!" There was once an assignment was given back to us during a lecture. I managed to collect mine as I was there. I also noticed X and Y, 2 students from my country, did not attend the lecture and so did not take their assignments. The reason they did not do that was because they were heavily involved in the university's activities and missing lectures were something quite common for them. However, I didn't not want to take it for them as it was none of my business. I also did not want to interfere in their private matters. However, there was a meeting the next day for all students from my country. Most of the students attended and X and Y were also there. I manged to tell them about the assignments they did not collect. To my surprise, I was asked why I had not taken it for them. I told them it was not my concern and so I did not take it for them. X then shot back and told me I should have taken it for them as they had not known about it. He then told me I should take it for them next time. AS THIS WAS WHAT HE HAD SAID and I FELT AS WE WERE ALL FROM THE SAME COUNTRY, I decided to do what he said the next time. After all, I felt we must always help each other when we were so far away from home. Based on my experience, I also know they will never go and take their assignments until a long time later. So the next time when another assignment was handed back to us, I took the initiative to take it for them. To my surprise, both X and Y were the most indignant when I gave them their papers. Y's face was also very smelly and they literally snatch their papers from my hands. It was very clear they didn't appreciate what I had done for them. Since then, they not only avoided me, but they also started to treat me like an enemy. Since then also, rumours were also spread around the department and among the people from my country that I was the busybody who liked to pry into other people's affairs. Was what I had done wrong? Was it wrong when I had acted on their instructions? If I was wrong, where did I go wrong?  more

Resolved Question: Based on our skills what home business can we start?

My husband and I cannot really be apart from each other (met in high school, spent every day together for the past 8 years). Now we are expecting a little child, and we want to start a home-based business so that we can be together and help each other with business and child rearing. Here are my skills: I speak 2 languages (Russian and Spanish), I am a graduate student (nonprofit management and public policy), I've worked in the office environment prior to my pregnancy, I am a certified advanced tutor, worked in retail industry for many years (know ins and outs). My husband: Part-time EMT, Micro-Biology Major ( has one semester to graduate), he is a self-taught investor, accordion player, renovates cars for leisure, has good people skills and many connections in medical world. We do not want to get involved with the internet scams. We want to start something legitimate. We are looking for "service" opportunities. My husband unfortunately does not want to sell. We are not afraid to work So far I thought of consulting assistants, assistance for elderly and disabled, translation services (my husband also speaks German), travel agency based at home, tutoring services.  more
